Tools

There are several open-source tools that can be used with the GECKO5Education/Modular. This section show these tools and how to install and use them.

The tools described here are:

  • CAD-tools. The CAD-tools used are open-source and provided by the oss-cad-suite. The oss-cad-suite provides, among others, tools for simulating, synthesizing, and perform place-and-route for VHDL and Verilog designs.

  • Logisim-Evolution. Logisim-Evolution is educational software for designing and simulating digital logic circuits.

  • UART communication. To be able to communicate with the UART(RS232) on the GECKO5Education/Modular, you require a communication program on your PC/laptop.

  • VSCode with TerosHDL. Visual Studio Code is an open-source AI code editor, that can be used for example for c/c++ development. The TerosHDL-plugin provides an open-source toolbox for ASIC/FPGA.

  • OpenRISC cross-compile tool-chain. The OpenRISC cross-compile tool-chain provides a patched version of the well known GNU Compiler Collection. This tool-chain is used to create programs for the at EPFL-LAP developed OpenRISC-systems.
